Volvo is looking at strengthening its presence in the Indian market this year. The Swedish manufacturer hopes to launch more of its cars here during 2010, some of which will go head to head against cars from other European manufacturers (read Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW…).
‘India is the next growth destination in the Asia Pacific region and Volvo Cars is committed to be a part of that growth,’ says Paul de Voijs, MD, Volvo Auto India. ‘In keeping with our strategy, we have until now concentrated on laying a strong foundation for our brand. Our mantra for 2010 will be to strengthen our presence in the country. Our goal is to become a trusted automobile luxury brand in the Indian market,’ he adds.
In addition to the petrol-engined S80 sedan which is already on sale in India, Volvo aims to launch a diesel-engined version of the S80, the smaller S60 sedan and the XC60 SUV in the country during the course of this year. The company also plans to expand its dealer network in India, in cities like Bangalore, Jaipur, Ludhiana, Goa and Kolkata. Volvo already has car dealerships in Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Chandigarh.
