Volkswagen today unveiled its new compact hybrid coupé concept at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), in Detroit. Fitted with a 1.4-litre, 150bhp petrol engine, 7-speed DSG gearbox and a 27 horsepower electric motor that’s powered by a lithium-ion battery, VW’s new hybrid coupe can work in electric-only, full hybrid or engine-only modes.
Styled by a team led by Klaus Bischoff, Head of Volkswagen Design, and overseen by Walter de Silva, Head of Design for the Volkswagen Group, the new compact coupé marks an evolution of the styling direction already seen on VW’s Golf and Polo models. However, the vehicle remains a concept at present, with no immediate plans for production.
