The Reva Electric Car Company (RECC), which had earlier indicated that its new electric car – the Reva NXR – would go into production by mid-2010, may now push the production of this car back by a few months. The Reva NXR is now likely to go into production early next year and is likely to be first introduced in Europe. The car might be launched in India only by 2012.
The Reva NXR, which will be available in two versions – with lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries – could be priced at Rs 6.5 lakh and above. This kind of pricing isn’t likely to work in India for a slow, tiny car that can barely seat two people and that has a rather limited driving range. Like we said earlier about the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, electric cars don’t quite seem ready to hit the mainstream just yet.
