The Piaggio Group has signed a new technical collaboration agreement with Chinese company Dongan Power, which is a part of the ChangAn-Hafei Group, a major player in the Chinese automotive sector. The agreement is aimed at developing small capacity petrol engines for the light commercial vehicles produced by Piaggio in Italy and India.
With this agreement, Piaggio will also look at the development of hybrid and electric powerplants for its LCVs in the near future. However, to start with, Piaggio and Dongan Power will produce a new 1,300cc four-cylinder petrol engine that will be compliant with Euro 5 emissions norms. This engine, which will also be available in bi-fuel versions, has been designed for the Piaggio Porter range of LCVs.
