Tata ownership is, it seems, working out very well for Jaguar, whose cars have been ranked the highest (in a tie, with Buick) in the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Vehicle Dependability (VDS) Study, in the US. With this, Jaguar (and Buick) have pushed Lexus - which had held the no.1 position for the last 14 years - to the no.2 spot.
Jaguar cars had earlier been ranked no.1 in the US in the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) Study, and Jaguar was also ranked the top automotive brand in Business Week's list of ‘Customer Service Champs.’
‘Ranking top in the United States' leading survey on vehicle dependability is recognition that Jaguar not only makes the most desirable cars, but now, the most dependable too,’ says Mike O'Driscoll, Jaguar Managing Director. ‘Quality and reliability are only a part of Jaguar's new success. Just this year, we've introduced two outstanding new engine series that set the standard for performance, fuel economy and emissions, while our new super high-performance models, the XFR and XKR, are getting excellent reviews from the world's motoring writers,’ he adds.
‘High quality is an essential element of the brand's promise to its customers and we are pleased to have our achievements recognised. Jaguar customers commit to the brand because they desire a distinctive premium car, and they stay with the brand because the product and the dealership experience surpass their expectations for a luxury vehicle,’ says Gary Temple, President, Jaguar Land Rover North America.
In 2008, Jaguar sold more than 65,000 cars worldwide, which was an increase of about 8% over its sales in 2007. Tata Motors believes there is a market for Jaguar cars in India and a CBU imports program for Jaguar is likely to be started in the country in 2010.
