After Maruti, which had earlier announced that it would not upgrade the M800 so it could comply with BS IV emissions norms, Fiat has decided to follow suit with its Palio hatchback. According to a report on DNA, the Italian company will not upgrade the Palio to BS IV, which means the car’s sales will be stopped by March, in cities where BS IV norms are coming into effect this year. And with the countrywide adoption of these norms in 2015-16, the Palio will ultimately be phased out completely before that.
The DNA report says that Fiat is now keen to push the Grande Punto instead of the Palio. The Grande Punto comes with 1.3-litre diesel and 1.2-litre petrol engines, and new Sports variant is likely to be added to the line-up in the near future.
