
| Ford Motor Company is the fourth largest automobile manufacturer in the world. Founded by Henry Ford, in June 1903, the American MNC has its reach across the world. Headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, it is best known for unmatched quality in the engineering of its vehicles. The automaker first started its operation in India in 1926, but was shut down in 1954. It re-entered the Indian automobile business in 1995, as a 50-50 joint venture with Mahindra & Mahindra. The company came to be known as Mahindra Ford India Limited (MFIL). In 1998, Ford acquired almost 72% of the share in MFIL and was then, renamed as Ford India. Escort was its first passenger car launched in India. In 2001, the sedan was replaced by Ikon, which has been produced indigenously in the country. After the huge success of Ikon, the company added some more luxurious cars to its product line, including Fiesta, Fusion and Endeavour. The cars manufactured by Ford India are widely accepted for their unique style, performance and luxury. The J D power 1997 India Initial Quality and Customer Satisfaction Awards voted the Ford Escort as the best quality car and Mahindra Ford and its dealerships were rated the highest in Customer Satisfaction. |
